Hesitation Blues - Rev. Gary Davis
lyrics as recorded by Doc and Merl Watson

I really like this version.  The verse section lasts twice as many measures as it does in the well known Hot Tuna version which allows for a little bit more narrative.  To make up for the longer verses, play it a bit faster.

               Am          E7            Am              E7
she throwed my hat out the window and my clothes out the door
     Am          E7           Am          E7
I'll get another mama I don't want her anymore
Am        E7          Am        E7
spends my money don't last long time
       Am          E7           Am              E7
just a cusin and a fussin and a fightin all the time

          F                               C     C7
won't you tell me how long will I have to wait
      G                    stop       C-C7-F-Gb-G
can I get away now or must I hesitate

they throwed me in the jail with my back to the wall
and along come mama was the cause of it all
I'll sleep in the woods in a hollow log
before I stay with you and let you treat me like a dog

won't you tell me how long will I have to wait
can I get away now or must I hesitate

I am goin down the road with my hat in my hand
looking for the woman who is lookin for a man
I'm not the doctor but the doctor's son
but I can ease you pain until the doctor comes

won't you tell me how long will I have to wait
can I get you now or must I hesitate

come here mama pin a rose on me
there's a sweet little woman that I'm a gonna see
a hesitatin papa with the hesitatin blues
found a hesitatin mama that he cain't afford to loose

won't you tell me how long will I have to wait
can I get you now or must I hesitate
